If you want a straighter smile but you don’t want to wear traditional metal braces, Invisalign from BORO Dental Arts is a great solution. Dr. Lau is an experienced provider of Invisalign and can straighten your smile without bulky, uncomfortable, unsightly braces. To get started, contact us today for an Invisalign consultation.
Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces. Instead of using metal wires, brackets, and elastic bands to correct your smile, this treatment uses a sequence of clear plastic aligners. These aligners look similar to a retainer or a night guard for teeth grinding.
Over time, you’ll switch through multiple aligners. Each one will shift your teeth slightly into the proper position, correcting issues like crooked teeth, gaps in your smile, and much more. Simply follow the doctor’s instructions, and you’ll have a brand-new smile at the end of your treatment, which usually takes less than a year.
First, you’ll come in for a consultation with Dr. Lau and she will determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign based on your tooth position, bite, and a number of other factors. If you’re approved, she will take images and impressions of your teeth and work closely with Invisalign to develop your treatment plan.
You’ll come back in when your first sets of aligners arrive at our office. The doctor will give you instructions about how to get the most out of your treatment, and you’ll begin wearing the aligners for at least 20-22 hours per day. You’ll come back to our office every 6 weeks to get your next sets of aligners, and for a quick checkup.
This same basic process will continue until your treatment is done. For most patients, it takes between 20-24 sets of aligners to complete treatment, so the average treatment time is just under a year.
Invisalign has a number of great benefits compared to braces. First, it’s nearly invisible when worn and does not affect your speech, so nobody has to know that you’re straightening your teeth. Invisalign can also be removed, making it easier to brush and floss, and allowing you to eat whatever you wish since there are no dietary restrictions.
In addition, Invisalign is more comfortable than braces. It uses gentle, even pressure to move your teeth, and there are no pointy metal components that can irritate your mouth.
Most patients who have healthy mouths and have only minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues are good candidates for Invisalign. If you have issues like gaps in your smile, slightly crooked teeth, or minor bite problems, you’re likely a good candidate.
However, you are not a good candidate if you have serious orthodontic issues. Serious bite problems, extremely crooked or crowded teeth, or very large gaps in your smile may not be treatable with Invisalign. For patients with these issues, traditional orthodontic treatment with braces may be the best option. To find out if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, we recommend coming into BORO Dental Arts now for a free consultation.
